In Greek mythology Thalatta, also known as Thalassa, Thalath, or Tethys, was the primeval spirit of the sea. Aesop wrote fables about her in which she spawned the tribes of fish. She is sometimes considered to be the mother of Aphrodite and one of the moons of Neptune is called Thalassa.
